Yesterday, we told you that a new boot level exploit was found by Pod2G and P0sixninja, and that a new jailbreaking tool is on its way. What we failed to mention yesterday is the fact that the new jailbreaking tool, won’t be released soon. In the near future? Yes, definitely. But there’s still a lot of work to be done in the process.
Today, P0sixninja reveals some new info about the the exploit, which is called SHAtter and it’s a bootrom exploit, meaning that it’s the first *thing* that runs when an iOS device is being booted. That means, that Apple won’t be able to stop the jailbreak, without upgrading the hardware.
Thanks to SHAtter, it is possible to jailbreak ALL existing iOS devices, iPod Touch 4 included, but unfortunately it is a tethered jailbreak. A tethered jailbreak means that, in order to start your iOS devices you need to connect that devices to a computer first. Which pretty much sucks, but it doesn’t mean that a untethered jailbreak won’t be released ( we’ll see… ).
P0sixninja says that the same exploit was also discovered by GeoHot before he left the scene…
That’s all the info we have at the moment. We will keep you updated. Stay tuned…
